It is believed that the ritual guarantees the dissipation of the misfortunes and evils, and of course, the materialization of people’s hopes and desires for the next year. Persian Food (Sabzi Polo & Mahi and Chicken) will be served along with Persian pastries, tea, fruits, music. Sizdeh Bedar Date: Saturday April 6, 2024 Time: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Location: Elena Gallegos Park - Kiwanis group picnic area Price: This is a pot-luck picnic; the park fee is paid for. Yalda Night, also known as Shab-e Yalda or Shab-e Chelleh, is an ancient Persian festival celebrated on the eve of the winter solstice, which usually falls on December 21st. It marks the longest night of the year and the beginning of winter.
The festival has its roots in Zoroastrianism. Yalda Night has great cultural significance in Iran and among Persian communities worldwide. It's a time for families and friends to gather, celebrate, and stay up late into the night. The poetry of Hafez, a revered Persian poet, is often recited, and singing, dancing are common activities during this festive night. We're excited to extend an invitation to celebrate Yalda Night together as a community. We encourage everyone to bring a dish or dessert that holds personal significance or represents the spirit of Yalda. Pomegranates, watermelons, nuts, and other traditional fruits are especially welcome as they symbolize the hopes for a bountiful and prosperous year ahead. Donations would be greatly appreciated since last year's revenue from selling Aash and tea did not cover the cost. This event takes place on Thursday, August 9 through Sunday, August 12 at the Holy Ghost Campground. ICSNM is only responsible for reserving the campground. Please make sure to bring all the necessary camping equipment (like proper tent and night light as well as food, drink( water), etc.). Also, be prepared for possible rain and hail during your stay.
Directions to Holy Ghost: From Albuquerque take I-25 North, Take Exit 299 for NM 50 towards Glorietta/Pecos - .2 miles, Turn left on NM 50 - .1 mile, Turn right to stay on NM 50 - 5.8 miles, Turn Left at NM 63 - 13.2 miles, Continue on NF 122 - 2.8 miles (keep an eye on Holy Ghost Campground sign, open the gate and drive into the reserved group camp ground). Looking forward to seeing you all there! UPDATE: Rangers have closed Holy Ghost campground from 7/23 – 8/10 for road repair. As a result, ICSNM's annual group camping will be cancelled for this summer. Once again ICSNM organized a Chaharshanbe Suri event in Corrales. We enjoyed delicious Ash-e Reshte, cookies and tea.
